Modern Self Defence: Simplifying the Clinch Sweep with MMAShredded
Self-defence in our contemporary era goes beyond simply being able to throw a punch and block an oncoming attack; it requires an extensive knowledge of various movements, techniques, and strategies. One particular strategy that takes center stage in this discussion is the Clinch Sweep, brilliantly showcased by the seasoned mixed martial arts (MMA) expert, Jeff Chan, on his YouTube channel, MMAShredded. Jeff describes the Clinch Sweep as a “super simple and effective” technique, and given his extensive experience and expert knowledge in MMA, we’re inclined to agree. Clinching, which involves maneuvering an opponent while maintaining close contact, can become a safe haven in a hostile situation. It can serve as a defense strategy, although its complexity makes it less intuitive for beginners. In the brief, but highly instructive 39-second video, Jeff demonstrates that while Clinch Sweep can look complicated, he has managed to distill it into an easier, comprehensible, and practical method.Breaking Down The Clinch Sweep
The Clinch Sweep’s core lies in effective body positioning and utilizing your opponent’s momentum to your advantage. It’s all about leveraging your strength and motion against the perceived threat in a controlled manner to tip the balance in your favor. To execute a successful clinch sweep according to Jeff Chan, you must first establish solid footing while ensuring your body, specifically your torso and hips, is prepared to serve as the fulcrum of the motion. Once you’ve established the clinch — usually by looping your arm around your opponent’s shoulder or under their arms — watch for the opponent’s rhythm. Take advantage of their forward momentum during an attack, pivot, and redirect their motion to knock them off balance. Understanding The Timing There’s a significant element of timing involved in doing a clean Clinch Sweep. If conducted too early, it could lead to unnecessary exertion and likely a failed attempt. Too late, and you risk being overwhelmed by your opponent’s attack. Based on Jeff Chan’s technique, the optimal moment is just as your opponent leads into an attack. This is when their momentum is forward-facing, making it easier to utilize their own kinetic energy to throw them off balance. Practice Makes Perfect As with any self-defence move, the Clinch Sweep requires consistent practice for mastery. The 340+ techniques in Jeff Chan’s program provide ample opportunity for honing techniques like Clinch Sweep and beyond, fostering a sense of security and confidence in your self-defense abilities. In the grand arena of self defence, simplicity is often the key to success. The Clinich Sweep wonderfully embodies this mantra, with its seemingly complex maneuvers straightforwardly simplified by Jeff Chan. As a beneficial tool in the realm of MMA and self defence, it proves that even in a world as complex as ours, sometimes the straightforward way is the most effective.MMA Block

Technique 👌
It looks like a Greco-Roman wrestling throw, awesome stuff Jeff
Will it kill someone if I use it on the street?
Reminds me of a lat drop always enjoy hitting shit like this cuz it’s so fun to do less so to be done to you tho
Love thissss. What would you say is an effective counter or defense for this throw?
Suplex city
A weak version of a lateral throw (usually you have an over hook on the side you're throwing and an under hook to leverage the throw.
Excellent throw. Quick and easy to setup 🙏🙏🙏. Great job🤙
🙂
Nice!
so I'm assuming you wouldn't try this on a wrestler? seems the technique needs to be as clean as possible otherwise the wrestler can land weird, spring on a single leg and try to drive you to the mat if you're not ready to defend or if they just catch you off balance for a moment. like all those guys just fell weird, but in my head I'm picturing a wrestler/grappler just immediately jumping on a leg or your hips to pull you down with them.
What size of gloves use you in this vídeo??? Are snug inside?? I like this gloves but i have small hands 😂
Last dude said "me next!"
Happy Wednesday 😁👍
Is this legal in muay thai?
I have zero knowledge on what is considered legal and illegal, i usually get told off for doing sweeps and tosses.and now, i never engage in clinch, just dance about on the outside
“OUUWWEEEEE” is the best 😂
weeeeeeee
Good old 50/50 throw from the underhook side.
Awesome thanks!
That technique is pretty simple and effective.
I saw it in muay Thai and wrestling.
Jeff how do you find the primo gloves? Saw them and they looked good but not much reviews on them
gold!
Just curious, when you learn a new technique how many weeks/months pass by until you have enough sparring footage of it ?
Love your channel btw, keep it up
flare underhook to get the sweep?
Nice move
Alright! Will use it in my next boxing match
Thanks
It looks like sasae or lat drop. Awesome
How do you call this throw? Is it like a suplex?
I guess you don't have to worry so much about the knee to the groin in mma.. But good tosses for sure.
yesterday my sparring partner used this technique against me 🥲🥲
the guy seems to subscribe your channel😃
i will practice this tonight 🙂
thanks!!
Great throw …always take advantage of your opponents poor balance in the clinch
In MMA I would recommend falling into it and slamming as hard as possible ( in a fight not in sparring obviously, that's why he's so gentle here)
