Modern Self-Defence: An Evolutionary Response to Danger

The rapidly evolving world of modern self-defence is constantly adapting to meet new challenges. This evolution was clearly demonstrated in a video uploaded on YouTube by MMAShredded entitled “The Next Generation of Killers!” which has gained over 64,000 views. Jeff Chan, the mastermind behind the highly respected channel, spoils his audience with sharp, concise, yet highly effective instructional content in a compact 43-second video. The Art of Teaching The video starts with a warmhearted Jeff Chan entertaining his young students with a promise of fame on YouTube. His teaching style echoes with dedication, making each session not only informative but also engaging. His approach fosters a positive learning environment, a significant aspect in martial arts training. Simple, Yet Effective Techniques Moving to the meat of the video, what captured the audience is the intuitive simplicity and effectiveness of the self-defence combo taught. It consisted of a “one-two-three” punch, followed by an instructed “step back,” and completed by a cross. Not only is this sequence useful in MMA practice, but it also addresses an urgent need for real-world self-defence techniques. The backstep precisely adds a level of complexity, making it more than a standard punch combination. An evolutionary response to danger, the backstep simulates the instinctive reaction to retreat from a threat while the cross becomes an offensive manoeuvre executed simultaneously. This combo teaches the student to maintain composure during an attack, create a safe distance, and retaliate assertively when given the opportunity. Creating a Community The video’s description extends an open invitation to train with Jeff Chan at Glory Martial Arts in Brooklyn. However, this community is not limited to a physical location. MMAShredded has a significant presence not only on YouTube but also on other online platforms such as Instagram, their personal website, and Facebook. This array demonstrates the brand’s expansion beyond physical boundaries to a broader digital community, promoting the martial arts experience and reinforcing its relevance in today’s digitized world. The reach of MMAShredded’s influence is echoed in Jeff Chan’s request for liking, commenting, and sharing the video—a common practice to increase visibility in the vast landscape of the internet. And with viewers engaging, it becomes clear that the world remains captivated by the idea of self-defence, a concept that evolves in line with societal changes and advances in martial arts. In conclusion, this video provides us with a snapshot of modern self-defence—combining innovative techniques and digital community building while remaining grounded in the traditional principles of martial arts. It emphasizes how essential self-defence is, and how, even in today’s largely peaceful world, knowing how to protect oneself remains a crucial life skill worth learning and sharing.

  1. Make them do it Jeff. It can only make them stronger. Damn. I thought they were your kids. Like the conservative way. But you meant “my kids” like Joey “Our Kids”.

  2. Damn. It sucks I was a very sick kid and couldn't do this. Judo, karate, couldn't.
I was also a sick adult so I couldn't do it even then.
And then I got stronger but got a freaking wheelchair after a car accident in my 20th year… damn.
I mean, I was okay after that for a while and got some bjj skills finally but eventually chose to use that energy to work and make some money so I could… eat and stuff.
Now I'm 28, crippled but finally standing, bought a tatami and a bag and started over… and out of nowhere got a new sickness that makes my head spin a lot when moving, walking, crouching, jumping… and I'm afraid I'm not gonna make it to the ring guys… probably too old now. Damn. Too many screws in my legs. 😒😒 Tendons too short… So many things to work on in my life… but all I can think about is fighting. Perfecting the moves, the angles, the footwork, the breathing. I think I would be great even if I could start now. But I can't. Fuck I'm dedicated I'm gonna die on that mat.

  3. After 3 years of Bjj my kids are now taking Muay Thai and they luv it too…. We were at Costco and my daughter just shadow boxing n goofing around threw a PERFECT hook to the body that I caught out of the corner of my eye and when I wowed her she had the most dehrable and ferocious smile on her face
