In his latest video, “Use this Self Defense Technique if you are attacked from behind! | Pure Krav Maga”, Icy Mike from Hard2Hurt takes a deep-dive into the world of Krav Maga. Venturing to a Krav Maga gym in Georgia, Mike engages with Tiffany, the gym’s owner, learning practical self-defence tactics for those precarious situations when attack ensues from behind. Mike acquires a valuable lesson about situational awareness and reaction, adapting to worst-case scenarios with practical application of fundamental wrestling skills, peppered with strategic strikes. This video, both enlightening and educational, masterfully blends theory and execution to present a highly effective self-defence blueprint.

Facing Threats Head-On: Realistic Self Defence with Modern Krav Maga

In a recent enlightening video demonstration conducted by Icy Mike’s YouTube channel, Hard2Hurt, the effectiveness of modern Krav Maga as a method of realistic self defence comes into the spotlight. In this video, Icy Mike receives tactical training on how to handle a sneak-attack from behind with the help of Tiffany, the owner of Pure Krav Maga gym in Dacula, Georgia. Setting the Stage for Self-Defence Prevention is always better than cure. Tiffany puts emphasis on being aware of one’s surroundings to avoid a surprise attack. Awareness doesn’t negate the necessity of self-defence techniques, but it does allow one to be better prepared for adversities. However, in the realistic world where things don’t always go as planned, Tiffany demonstrates some Krav Maga techniques for the ‘worst case scenario’. The Art of Creating Space Capitalizing on the surprise of the initial contact, one can try to burst forward, effectively making it harder for the attacker to restrict movements and creating a room to escape from the bear hug. The goal is to avoid letting your hands getting pinned to your sides. At this point, the defender should shift the hips to an angle to get offline from the attacker, a crucial step to take to avoid further confrontation. Dealing with Full-Grip Attacks In the event an attacker has managed to fully gripped the defender, Tiffany suggests struggling to bring your elbows together, creating a small breathing room to slide out. Assuming the attacker won’t release, the defender is advised to shift their hips while sending a headbutt to the side of the attacker. When the Game is Lifted, Literally Sometimes, attackers may decide to lift their victims, attempting to immobilize them fully. In such scenarios, Krav Maga encourages using the attacker’s momentum against them. A sudden shifting of weight and sharp, targeted groin strikes may force them to release their grip. Groin Strikes: Not the End All Be All Tiffany, much like Icy Mike, insists that groin strikes are merely supplementary moves, not the knockout punch many make it out to be. While certainly effective to an extent, attackers might overlook the strikes or react minimally, forcing defenders to rely on their overall Krav Maga training to handle the situation. Icy Mike maintains a stark emphasis on striking fundamentals and wrestling skills, considering them just as valuable as the touted Krav Maga strikes. A good self-defence strategy comprises not just spontaneous attacks, but well-built stamina and the capability to handle the additional stress of a real altercation. A critical takeaway from his collaborative training with Tiffany of Pure Krav Maga is that true self-defence relies less on designated ‘death blows’ and more on understanding the dynamics of an attack, retaining control over one’s reactions, and having a healthy mix of striking, grappling, and fitness training. In a world where threats can lurk around any corner, skills like these will always come in handy. And as Icy Mike succinctly puts it, when you’re better at sport fighting, you’re going to be better at self defence. The content delivered by Hard2Hurt, crafted with equal measures of seriousness and humor, offers an entertaining yet informative vantage point into the world of martial arts and self-defence. This particular video featuring Pure Krav Maga is an essential watch that reinforces the core principles of self-defence and the significance of realistic training.

  1. You know which art has more obsession about groin strikes? Ameri-Do-Te. And you also re stomp the groin. All the time every time

  2. Great to see a better representation of a good Krav school!

The Krav class I take teaches self-defenses techniques as well as BJJ, Kickboxing and Grappling. Every session involves pressure testing or sparing and there is a huge emphasis on physical conditioning and fitness!

Can get pretty intense 😅 p.s never forget your groin guard haha

  3. One thing I hate when they talk about stuff like this and say if it's a disqualifier, when was the last time you saw someone get DQ in UFC. It's a warning for the first 3-4 times lol

  4. It still my opinion that gun disarms are all BS and far more likely to end in you "doing the work for them." As in, yanking on a gun that someone has their finger wrapped around the trigger of is just helping them accelerate your last bad day.

  5. Once that grip is on from the rear and she doesn’t simultaneously drop her weight and pin your arms to her chest with her forearms, then there’s nothing to stop you from raising your arms and rear choking her to death. I don’t trust krav magra. Give me a blend of classic western boxing, classic high school/college wrestling, old school Goju Ryu, and American Combative Inc.

  6. Playful sparring and self defense are two completely different things. These people are kidding themselves or lying to their customers if they are the instructors selling recreational sparring as a valuable skill for self defence.

  7. No, recreational light sparring does not make you better as self defense. If anything, the opposite might be true.
But you have to sell those gym memberships to the gullible public, hey!

  8. MAN! Unless a man is ruthless and trained, I think trained women fighters would always have the advantage fighting a man bro; because of hesitation on the man's part. I think a male would always kind of hesitate at any and/or every aspect of the fight:)

  9. Exactly. Just like i say! I'm still longing to find a real martial art that does not work

Now then, there are all of those no hit K.O.s and a few "pressure point based martial arts" that definitely don't work in the traditional way, and yet they still have some stuff goimg for them (it's usually better to train anything else tho lol)

  10. Crap ma ga is a joke. Glorified women's self defense over hyped by Israeli propaganda. Put it in the cage and see what happens

  11. I guess im just too critical of KM. If you spar kickboxing groin strikes inevitability happen. And when they use wrestling techniques but never give wrestling credit i sort of tune out. I guess Greco Roman wrestlers should learn krav maga lol.

  12. Ill be honest the first 3/4 of the video annoyed me but then she said those key words "its not the end all be all strike" at it was redeemed 😂 also at the end where she said if your better at sport fighting your better at self defense was the cherry on top 👌

  13. The game changer in any self-defense gym is sparring. By the simple reason that if you don't train under pressure you won't be able to do under pressure. Any technique works against a cooperative opponent.
Congratulations & keep the good work, Mike!

  14. My gf and her mom worked for a Krav Maga school for years and as someone who is very skeptical
Of the martial arts having practiced since I was a child and finding out through sparring what does and doesn’t actually work it was a breath of fresh air to meet someone who’s Krav Maga wasn’t aikido 😂 theirs is basically mma with a lot of hand fighting, grappling and Muay Thai

  15. It's just a wonderful thing when two people that are so advanced that martial arts put on black costumes and fight on a black floor so you can kind of sort of see it just enough to buy something. It was interesting but I can't really see the black person in front of the black person in the black T-shirt wait there's a white arm sticking out of this now it's a flash of that an arm or leg it's not hooked anything but a ball of black T-shirt people? If one of you had bright red and one he had bright blue and you were in that black background it would be easier to see. My cause downturn in sales. though
