Adapting Boxing and Martial Arts Techniques for Self Defence
Martial arts and self-defence applications evolve continuously, and the modern age presents us with a variety of tools and techniques to safeguard ourselves. One such tool discussed by experienced martial artist, ‘Icy Mike’ from the YouTube Channel, Hard2Hurt, is the Revgear S5 All Rounder boxing gloves. In his video “The Best Boxing Gloves I’ve Ever Had | Revgear S5 All Rounder”, Icy Mike details his experiences and observations on using the gloves as a self-defence enthusiast, unpacking some intriguing insights that can be applied in the modern self-defence landscape. Icy Mike initially addressed that the “S5 all-rounders” were introduced as the ‘myriad-use’ glove for any boxing, hitting bags, sparring or general training requirement, an all-rounder indeed. However, he dispels the notion of the glove being an efficient ‘all-rounder’, instead underscoring its unique attributes that make it a game-changer for sparring. The first element is the multi-layered knuckle protection that constitutes high-tech foam. He stated that his usage of the gloves for what might be hundreds or even thousands of sparring rounds, has proven the gloves effective and protective. The additional padding provided a defensive advantage, handling impacts efficiently, while the compact design gave a distinct offensive edge in terms of reach. This narrower ‘hand-cage’, as Icy Mike described, permits the glove to bypass guards effectively and provides an additional inch or slightly more in reach, fundamentally important in a combat situation. While one may argue against using gloves with additional reach, citing it as ‘unrealistic’, it’s important to consider the main purpose of sparring: practicing how to hit and not get hit. Furthermore, experiences shared by Icy Mike’s trainees supported the idea of the glove’s durability and comfort, particularly calling attention to effective impact handling. Again, the feature of additional reach was emphasized, being highly effective in both offensive and defensive scenarios. A critical point made was about the important concept of precision and accuracy in fighting scenarios. An inch or an inch and a quarter might seem negligible to some, but in combat, it’s the difference between a missed hit and a hard landed one. In that sense, sparring gloves like the S5 all-rounders offer a realistic ‘cheat code’ to understand, adapt, and implement efficient techniques for combat and self-defence situations. Although glove selection is, without doubt, a subjective matter based on personal preference, Icy Mike’s unbiased, real-world evaluation provided an interesting perspective on the role of equipment in self-defence practices. Hence, it’s safe to say that an informed choice based on such comprehensive, clear-cut, and firsthand user experiences goes a long way in training oneself for the unpredictable world of self-defence. The tested durability, comfortable fit, innovative design for enhanced reach, and strategic padding of the Revgear S5 all-rounder glove makes it a promising option for those interested in self-defence, offering insights into not just glove selection, but the importance of strategic advantages in protecting oneself.Blablabla

Ok I don’t think inches are THAT important. What if he has good technique?
Wait a minute. Is Mike a 40K nerd? Does he know about the ork boys WAAAGH!
Red ones do go faster! Help you getting to krumping those gits all the better.
When red goes fast, does purple make them sneaky? That would be a cheat
I can explain yhe advantage for the red corner theory… I figured it out when I went to classes for sport karate referee and judging. During ring setup and event coordinating placement is referenced by the red corner or fighter.. For example we are taught the red always enters the ring and starts of the referees right hand side. So as a reference guide the red fighter is already mentioned more before the event even starts. I honestly believe there is a subconcience biased based on this. The red corner or fighter is paid attention to more even before they sign up to fight so in a close match red is given the edge. Or blue has to stand out more to get the judges attention or influence their decision. Hopefully this gibberish makes sense.
What I got from this:
1. Inches matter even if it’s just an inch
2. It’s hard to find the little thing at the top of the hole unless you pull what’s hiding it out of the way 😂😂😂
it is true and is the reason that some sports have regulations on the colour of the jersy they wear because red psycologically makes the other team feel like its going to lose so they lose so if ur gonna get jumped wear red hahahhaha
They are a great entry level gloves. I'm bougie with gloves though. I rotate between Winning, Fly, 1V1, Phenom, Onx and Reyes. I review a lot of training gear on my channel

Recommendations for sparring boxing gloves but specifically for wrist support?
What do you think about Grants it Winning?
Just bought these & I love them
My girlfriend tells me an inch and a quarter is a lot actually so I can see how it makes a big difference.
Bin rocking the same gloves all my live .. u got me thinking:) Revgear found a good promotor 🙏
How are they hard to soft in the padding on the knuckles? Not sure how to word that lol. I bought my son some revgear pinnacle gloves he wanted and compared to my fairtex gloves they seem really hard… like he hit me with a brick in sparring 🤣😐
i just got some rival gloves but they are way to short on my fingers and they push against it. do your longer and taller fighters find the revgear gloves comfortable on the fingers?
How big are your hands and what size do you wear?
The red ones go faster!!!
How are the Revgear Pinncales for muay thai sparring? I'm on a bit of a tight budget at the moment
Every inch matters folks.
Are they good for sparring heavy?
2:15 ok now show me da teef and lemme hear you WAAAGH
Hitnmove all day is the first true ultimate glove.
I am not affiliated with them but I believe they are the best.
I own 2 winnings, 3 rivals, 1 grant, 1 onyx, 3 hitnmove gloves and I think they are the top of the world: they even made a 24 Oz in the size of 16 Oz for conditioning. If you don’t know them, you must check them out. I understand this company gave you bags and all to make ad for them, but you gotta own more to rank the best, or say “ultimate”. Again, just a hitnmove fan and I fight for them because they do not pay or sponsor anyone to compliment.
Ordered. Thanks for the recommendation.
Oh wow this video came at the perfect time lol
Robust xD
Did my guy just make a Warhammer 40k reference? Smooth.
Thes cool for Muay Thai ?
Finally someone who understands how much of a difference one inch can make😂
