Turning the Tables: A Peek into Modern Self-Defence
A recent video by Jeff Chan of MMAShredded illustrates the potency of progressive training and effectiveness of practical application in the realm of self-defence. Released in June 2023, it’s a short and crisp video that demonstrates the amazing effects of applying the right techniques at the right time. The video opens on a high note: a punch lands excellently executed by the student. This highlights the importance of accuracy and timing in modern self-defence. It was a visible demonstration of one of self-defence’s fundamental principles: ‘strike first, strike fast.’ As the student channels his energy into every punch and kick, you can trace the precision of every movement. Modern self-defence is not about grandstanding moves but efficient, well-executed techniques. The phrase, “there we go”, repeated throughout the video, affirms the successful implementation of these practices. Page Break The video further delves into the strategy behind successful self-defence. There’s the inside but sweet: an efficient counter to attacks that highlights the importance of speed and agility. Instead of locking and absorbing, it empowers one to redirect the incoming force and turn it to their advantage. It’s a smart way of turning the tables, literally. Post the dramatic slide comes the follow-up – the essence of any self-defence technique. No move is complete without an effective follow-up: it’s what seals the deal. To quote from the video, “follow up, there we go, there we go” reinforces this exact sentiment. After an evasive manoeuvre or defensive strike, the consequent offensive action determines the outcome of the defensive scenario. Page Break Modern self-defence, as reflected in the video is about practicality and adaptability. It prioritizes strategic movements and intelligent use of body mechanics over brute strength. Moreover, the continuous emphasis on effective follow-up techniques further underlines this point. This student’s journey captured by Chan is a testament to the power of systematic training and methodical learning. The visible leap in the student’s aptitude might not translate to overnight skill acquisition for everyone, but it certainly manifests the rewards of consistent practice and dedicated groundwork. It embodies the spirit of martial arts: discipline, determination, and the drive to improve continuously. Page Break One of the striking features of modern self-defence highlighted in the video is the principle of fluidity. The practitioner swiftly transitions from one technique to another, illustrating the importance of versatility and adaptability. It is not just about knowing hundreds of techniques, but mastering to use them effectively in different situations. In conclusion, this widely viewed video gives an excellent run-through of what modern self-defence looks like in practice. It effectively illustrates the need for accuracy, timing, strategy, quick-thinking and adaptability – underscoring the fact that it’s not about the power of your punch, but how you land it that matters most.MMA Block

Student and teacher are twins.
Does it hurt worse to get kicked with the shin pad or the bare shin? Also, do the shin pads make checking kicks more or less effective?

Are the opponents told it will 70-80 in the beginning or is he just jumping at mans with guards down doing simple drills. What am i watching. This looks lit like horse s
Lol when you put a gymnast against a bunch of guys that cant do the splits. FML
boxing vs jiu jitsu who will win
Your style works but it's not correct
That throw work great when you get them to raise their leg
Good teacher 🎉
Stop catching kicks that are thrown at 50% speed and then dumping guys.
Classes move makes you look stupid
Yo what was the last sweep at the end called?
Careful with the head kicks in training, man. Doesn't take much power from a head kick to either put someone out accidentally, or cause cte down the line. Don't lose your chin in the gym, man. When's your next fight anyway? And when was your last fight?
Everyone's dropping their arms and he telegraphs a lot I'm guessing amateurs
U r a good sifu 🙏
Oh wow, he moves just like you as well
Love the videos but I dont like the way that you dip your head quite low to the side sometimes, i feel that in competition someone may time that with a head kick at some point.
