Debunking Self Defence Myths: Milk vs. Pepper Spray and The Go Guarded Ring

In a recent video by the YouTube channel Hard2Hurt, the video presenter “Icy Mike” took the liberty of testing and lending his expert perspective to some common self-defence myths. One of the most notable experiments undertaken was testing whether milk could truly alleviate the sting from pepper spray. In addition, he also studied a piece of self-defence equipment marketed towards women – the Go Guarded ring. Setting fire to the Dairy vs. Pepper Spray Debate The video begins on Christmas day with Icy Mike reluctantly agreeing to pepper spray on his face. The result is predictably painful and triggers a series of reactions that are as enlightening as they are entertaining. In the interest of scientific inquiry, he applies milk to one half of his face and leaves the other half untreated to test if dairy really can provide some relief. Surprisingly, the side treated with milk actually fares worse! According to Mike, the initial application of milk offers a cooling sensation due to its low temperature, but the moment it mingles with the pepper spray and seeps into the eyes, the burning sensation escalates. His conclusion? Time, fresh air and the body’s own tears are the most effective relief for pepper spray. It seems this age-old adage of using milk has little to no grounding in reality and only served to worsen the situation in this case. A critical lesson was learned – old beliefs should always be tested before being taken at face value. The Go Guarded Ring: A Closer Look Icy Mike next turns his focus onto the Go Guarded Ring, a product marketed towards women as a self-defence weapon. It’s a supposed “double protection” device that Icy Mike immediately criticizes for perpetuating misinformation about self-defence. The ring, fitted with a sharp edge, seems impressive initially. However, Mike highlights a fundamental flaw – its effectiveness depends on the wearer’s ability to throw a proper punch. Without the necessary training, the Go Guarded Ring loses a lot of its potential lethality. This raises an important point. Simply owning a self-defence weapon isn’t enough; one must have the skills and knowledge to use it effectively. The fantasy that a mere possession of a weapon is sufficient to deter or overpower an adversary can lead to false confidence and potential danger. A Christmas Lesson in Practical Self Defence This video serves as a fine example of the urgency to debunk myths and misconceptions in self-defence. Whether it’s about the supposed counteracting properties of milk against pepper spray, or the effectiveness of self-defence products like the Go Guarded Ring. It impresses upon us that understanding, skilfulness and regular training in handling a self-defence weapon are far more important than the weapon itself. By staying informed, questioning popular beliefs and regularly honing your defensive skills, you can truly be prepared for any self-defence situation. All in all, Icy Mike’s very adventurous and enlightening Christmas offers valuable insights into practical self-defence that will benefit anyone interested in the subject. And as he always says at the end of his videos, “stay hard to hurt.”

  1. Dang, it's werid to see your son growing up lol. I started watching when I was 13 years old, now I'm 17 and he is probably around that age now. Merry Christmas

  2. 😂 why your hurt brings me such joy “i wist not” but thanks for the laughter.

Next time, milk the coconuts and try that and see if all vegans and health reformers are onto something 🤔

Blessed holiday to you and yours

  3. This video is a pretty hardcore gift to your fans, we all thank you for doing it. I can understand about being hesitant to use the finger knife, it's a pretty extreme weapon to cut someone open with, regardless of their size. Mike's partner seems like a really cool and down-to-earth person, her common sense reminds me of my wife, it's always good to have a sane person to talk over ideas with when you're doing something insane. Merry Christmas to you and your family. 🎄

  4. I just told my sisters to get pepper spray keychains. Then, get the silly string that looks like pepper spray can. Use the silly string to shoot from in sparring so you get use to aiming peppper spray and pressing it. Not sure of its as good as these vidoes but they are couch potatoes.
