Unpacking Modern Self Defence: Decoding MMAShredded’s “This Setup ALWAYS Works!”
The realm of martial arts is labyrinthine, filled with numerous techniques and philosophies that baffle and amaze in equal measure. Recently, the video by MMAShredded (run by Jeff Chan), aptly titled “This Setup ALWAYS Works!”, became the talk of the town with more than 6000 views since its upload on October 31, 2023. Despite lasting a mere 29 seconds, the video packs a powerful punch (no pun intended) demonstrating a high impact self-defence manoeuvre. Anatomy of the Setup In the absence of a conclusive transcript, the technique can be deciphered as a set-up predominantly grounded in the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) genre. The manoeuvre appears to be universal and effective, regardless of one’s weight class or height. The modus operandi of this set-up – as demonstrated by Jeff Chan – incorporates a few fundamental elements of surprise, force, and direction. The Power of Surprise & Dexterity A key takeaway is the element of surprise. Successful self-defence is not merely about power but also timing. The strategy under discussion doesn’t rely solely on brute strength, but rather confounds the opponent by quick and unexpected movements. Dexterity and speed become paramount here. Throughout the video, Chan displays agility and rapidity, making the setup all the more effective. Force & Direction: A Lethal Combo Another aspect of the set-up is the balanced use of force and direction. The strike delivered isn’t off-balance or erratic but is directed with meticulous precision. The flawlessness of the strike comes from the incorporation of both horizontal and vertical force, leading to a well-rounded impact. This approach aligns with the broader principles of MMA where efficiency and technique take precedence over raw power. Chan’s video encapsulates this ethos perfectly. “Practice Makes Perfect” However, the video isn’t a green flag to leap into a fray unprepared. MMAShredded’s notion of a setup that “always works” is an appealing concept, but one that also throws the spotlight on continuous practice, diligence, and real-life application. One must practice these moves iteratively under a trained eye to polish nuances. Sparring – The MMA Shredded Way The video epitomises the ethos of MMAShredded where tough love reigns supreme. The website is a treasure trove for combat enthusiasts, offering myriad drills to level up sparring skills. In addition to this, the mantra of continuous learning and community connects Jeff Chan with his followers across social platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Patreon. The video is not just about the manoeuvre, it also underscores Chan’s commitment to making the world safer, stronger, and more confident. In Closing
Self-defence, today, is no longer an optional skill but a necessity. In this journey, resources like MMAShredded and knowledgeable practitioners like Jeff Chan play a significant role. The video “This Setup ALWAYS Works!” is a testament to the evolving understanding of self-defence, bridging the gap between physical fitness and emotional resilience. It reinforces that martial arts is not raw power and aggression, but tactful strategy and wise action. The thin line between being offensive and defensive blurs in the real world, and learning such setups may well make the difference. After all, as the ancient Chinese proverb goes, “It is better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.”MMA Block

You don’t even need to throw the third kick. Just fake it with your hips and they’ll bite. Go straight into the right cross.
I agree, I use this combo a lot in sparing and ring and it always work
Right on coach. Cool to see you sparing a south paw. Great control with the knee strike.
Unfortunately the camera setup for this short does not work T.T
Through fire and flames hits hard
True bodykick to superman punch works really, really well in sparring 👍
Hey man, just wanted to share that I had my first kickboxing spar today, and it didn't go as smoothly as I'd hoped. One of my sparring partners took things a bit too far and started making fun of me during the session. It was pretty disheartening, and I'm not quite sure how to bounce back from that. Any advice or words of wisdom on how to handle situations like this in the future……
I've seen Machida do this many times. Not saying that he is the only one who did this combo, of course.
